Week 36 - Shelling Peas, Butternut Pumpkin, Snow Peas, Eggplant, Fennel, Kale and Avocado

Week 36 - Shelling Peas, Butternut Pumpkin, Snow Peas, Eggplant, Fennel, Kale and Avocado

The weather may be starting to warm up, but the lag in the growing season means we’ll have root veg and brassicas for a while longer.

Asparagus is on its way, more fennel is here, plenty of broccoli and local lettuce is just starting again.

From up north, good value zucchini, eggplant, sweet potato and snow peas.

Eat well,

Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

BUTTERNUT PUMPKIN is this week's new inclusion in the veg boxes, and it will be joined by more small SWEET POTATO which has been a regular trough Winter.

New season shelling PEAS are a new addition this week, and available for orders. The veg boxes will include SNOW PEAS in the larger sizes.

From Gippsland, a new pick of FENNEL bulbs and BLACK KALE from Labertouche. Aswell as kale, greens for the boxes will include COS LETTUCE from Mornington. Just small heads at the moment, with these cold days. The warmer weather later in the week should quicken things up.

For root veg, SWEDE from Tasmania and PARSNIP from Pakenham - both have been excellent all season, and will be around for quite a while loinger.

Just a small amount of YELLOW BULLHORN CAPSICUM available - these are mild capsicum flavour. We also have Cayenne CHILLIES for something a little hotter.

For fruit, we’re including FUERTE AVOCADO from Mildura in the boxes.

New pick of BEURRE BOSC PEARS from Red Hill are looking much cleaner. The PACKHAM PEARS from Merrigum have plenty of skin marks, but are eating excellently.

Citrus continues in the boxes with CARA CARA oranges as the pick, and MANDARINS from Mildura. Nets of MANDARINS are just $8.90 this week.

And a new variety of mandarin “DAISY” to replace the TANGELOS which are finishing up. Daisy Mandarins are slightly tart in flavour, still with the mandarin sweetness.
