Week 38 - Lebanese Cucumber, Asparagus, Broad Beans, Baby Cos Lettuce and Rainbow Chard

Week 38 - Lebanese Cucumber, Asparagus, Broad Beans, Baby Cos Lettuce and Rainbow Chard

The difference in a week.

For the Vic boxes, gone are the carrots, cabbage and swede, and in comes asparagus, broad beans, lebanese cucumber and baby cos lettuce.

For the Mixed Choice boxes, we still get the choice of produce from up north so expect celery, onions, eggplant, bullhorn capsicum as well as a selection from Vic growers including fennel, broccoli, parsnip and cauliflower.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

New season ASPARAGUS is getting going, and the boxes will be full of bunches from here on.

BROAD BEANS start this week, coming from Swan Hill. Round BEANS back this week too.

And remarkably we already have LEBANESE CUCUMBER from Labertouche polytunnels in Gippsland.

Root veg is starting to slow for local Vic growers. This is the last week of Pakenham PARSNIP, then its Tassie and Queensland.

A little longer left for KOHLRABI and CELERIAC but only small amounts coming through. Daylesford POTATO is also nearly finished.

CARROTS from Mildura are also done, so no carrots for the Vic boxes for a while.

From up north nice BULLHORN CAPSICUM in the Mixed Choice boxes, along with more of the plentiful and excellent value EGGPLANT.

For greens BABY COS LETTUCE from Mornington, large half bunches of CELERY and new pick of RAINBOW CHARD from Labertouche.

Ronald from Campbelltown picking small LEEKS for the Vic boxes, and for the Mixed Choice a fresh pick of BROWN ONIONS just $4.50kg. Great time for onion lovers, with excellent value for red onions too.

For fruit, the late season MANDARINS are superb, especially the AFOURER - amazing sweetness and flavour. The ELLENDALE MANDARINS are a good deal, less intense flavour but still that mandarin sweetness you’d expect.

CARA CARA is still my favourite of the citrus - ate three back to back whilst working Saturday in the store. TANGELO is our number two, with that special grapefruit tartness.

BANANA should be back in the boxes now that the weather has turned and we can get them ripening better.
