Week 39 - Asparagus, Curly Kale, Bullhorn Capsicum, Fennel and Pink Grapefruit

Week 39 - Asparagus, Curly Kale, Bullhorn Capsicum, Fennel and Pink Grapefruit

Spring continues with the asparagus and broad bean seasons kicking off, and early lebanese cucumber from Labertouche in Gippsland.

We rely a little more on growers up north this time of year, as the local growers are busy planting rather than harvesting.

Grateful for the excellent bullhorn capsicum, eggplant, sweet potato, cauliflower all featuring this week.

Eat well,
Graham

PS. Choose from one of our box selection, and let us know your “no list”; or make one of your own by choosing the vegetables and fruit you prefer.

THIS WEEKS PRODUCE

The ASPARAGUS is just getting started, and this week we have Bridge Farms biodynamic crop starting from down near Pakenham.

Spring is a quiet time for local harvests (busy planting time though), so we’ll see mostly local greens, and the root veg from Winter, such as KOHLRABI and SWEDE which are this week's Victorian boxes.

BEETROOT and PARSNIP are now mostly coming from Tasmania and up north.

Great value on BULLHORN CAPSICUM for the boxes; so for EGGPLANT which is having a great early season.

CAULIFLOWER is the main brassica this week's boxes, from Mornington and Gippsland, as well as up north.

From Labertouche, we have field LEBANESE CUCUMBER for the boxes, along with Mornington Peninsula BABY COS LETTUCE for some early Spring salads.

Green curly KALE will be the other greens for the boxes.

For fruit, Swan Hill TANGELO and AFOURER MANDARINS are excellent eating, and our favourite oranges CARA CARA from Mildura will feature heavily in the boxes.

New season PINK GRAPEFRUIT from Mildura will be in the larger boxes, and we should have SUNDOWNER APPLES starting a new season this week.

STRAWBERRIES appear to be finishing, and great value for AVOCADO, two varieties both just $5 for 3.
